News Page Post Length

Hi there! My team and I are noticing that the "News posts" on our index page all seem to have different cutoff lengths. We've tried editing the posts and changing the theme used, but it hasn't fixed it. This isn't a big problem, but it seems odd that there's no visible pattern (text size, post height, or word/character count) in where a post is being cut off. Would you happen to know the mechanics behind the news page and how long posts can go before they're cut off into an ellipses and read more button?
